What is BMX

BMX is a sport that riders of all ages, skill levels, and gender in a race around a specially designed dirt track. A BMX track varies in length from 300 to 400 meters and includes a number of jumps and corners. Riders need to develop acceleration, speed, balance and an ability to respond quickly, in order to get around the track in the shortest possible time.

Perhaps the best way to see what this organized and extremely fun sport is about is to head down to your local club to watch some exciting racing. You can find your nearest club here

Licensing & Insurance

All BMX Clubs mentioned on this website are affiliated to BMX Sports Western Australia and BMX Australia at the time of creation. This allows these clubs to hold major events, run race meetings and allow coaching of riders whilst being covered by the necessary insurance.

All riders are also required to be licensed before being able to go onto the track during any event or practice session for insurance purposes. This makes it difficult for new riders to try racing before having to pay their full license fee. To combat this, riders may wish to visit an open track, whilst no events or official practice is taking place, and see what BMX is about for themselves. Alternatively riders can choose to sign-up for a day license or a full license (which lasts for 12 months). To do this the rider will need a birth certificate/extract or drivers license.

For full details on licenses, please talk to the friendly club registrar during a club meeting.
